Strong Women, Detached Men, and the Collapse of Attraction (Part 1)

People aren’t struggling in dating because they don’t know what they want. They’re struggling because they do. And what they know is this: they don’t want to repeat the past. What we’re seeing in today’s dating world isn’t confusion. It’s dissatisfaction and frustration on steroids. The people dating today aren’t coming in fresh. They’re coming in after marriages, after the death of a partner, after long-term relationships, after years of trying to make something work that ultimately didn’t. And now they’re back out there with a very clear internal message: I want something more. I want something deeper, more meaningful, and truly fulfilling.

What I’m about to share isn’t true for every man or every woman. Relationships are never one-size-fits-all. But this is a story I am hearing over and over again from the people sitting across from me. Different backgrounds, different experiences and yet the same patterns keep showing up. That’s when you stop calling it coincidence and start recognizing that something bigger is going on.

But this is where things start to unravel. Women are stepping back into the dating world wanting a man who will step up, who will take the lead, who shows up, and who is consistent. They no longer want to carry the emotional weight of a relationship the way they may have in the past. They don’t want to do it all again. There is a real desire for true partnership. But underneath it all is deep exhaustion from having been the one holding everything together for far too long.

At the same time, men are stepping into dating with a very different perspective. Many are saying, “I don’t want complicated.” They’re not looking for power struggles, layered expectations, or relationships that feel heavy before they even begin. They want something that feels more natural, more peaceful, and less like something they must constantly navigate or get “right.” In the absence of that, they will accept short-term flings with access to what they also highly desire… sex! And many women are allowing access way too easily and too early in the dating process.

And right there is where the disconnect begins. Women are looking for more support, while men are looking for less complexity. Neither one is wrong, but neither one fully understands what the other is reacting to. Because both are responding to what didn’t work in their past. This is the backdrop of modern dating. This is why attractions can start strong and then quickly and quietly unravel. We are all bringing in our baggage, no matter how much work we do on ourselves. Is it a backpack or three suitcases? It depends.

What happened next in dating didn’t just shift the rules, it flipped the entire playing field, and no one handed men a new playbook.

For generations, a man’s role was clear: pursuer, protector, provider. And truthfully, many men were good with that. There was pride in it. Identity in it. Then something changed. Women entered the workforce in a powerful, meaningful way, and for many men, this initially felt like relief. The pressure of being the sole breadwinner softened. The vision of building a life together became more expansive, more financially secure, more “team oriented.” On the surface, it looked like a win for everyone.

But underneath that shift, something far more complex was happening.

What looked like progress on the outside… created confusion on the inside of relationships.

Because when roles expand but expectations are never clearly defined, something starts to break down. Just slowly like a game of Jenga. Piece by piece until it collapses.

And this is exactly where attraction begins to shift and where many relationships unknowingly start to unravel.

In Part 2, we’re going to go deeper into what actually happened next, how this played out inside real relationships, and why so many couples ended up feeling unseen, disconnected, and ultimately… done.

If you’re reading this and thinking, “This feels a little too familiar,” you’re not alone.

Start paying attention to your own patterns. What are you reacting to from your past? What are you expecting that may have never been clearly communicated?

And if you’re ready to stop guessing and start understanding how modern dating is actually working today, follow along for Part 2.

If you’re reading this and thinking, “This is exactly what keeps happening to me,” you’re not alone… but you are stuck in a pattern.

And patterns don’t break just because you want them to.

They break when you understand them and have the right support to change them.

That’s the work we do inside Soulmate Quest.

Not surface-level advice. Not “just put yourself out there.”
Real clarity. Real strategy. Real connection.

If you’re done repeating the same dating cycle and ready for something different, this is where it starts.
