Dating Apps Aren’t Broken. They’re Working Exactly As Designed!

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: dating apps. Millions of people use them. Billions of dollars flow through them. Endless swiping, matching, chatting, disappearing, reappearing. And yet people are lonelier than ever.

I see it every day as a matchmaker. Brilliant, accomplished, thoughtful people sit across from me and say the same thing: “I’ve been on the apps for years… and nothing seems to go anywhere.”

That’s when I ask a simple question: What if the apps are working exactly the way they were designed? Not to help you leave. But to keep you there.

Dating apps are subscription businesses. Their revenue depends on people continuing to search. If two people meet, fall in love, and leave the platform, the company loses two paying customers. Now, multiply that by thousands of people a day finding love! From a business standpoint, success isn’t when you find your person. Success is when you keep swiping.

And the system reflects that. Access is restricted. Algorithms control who you see. Messages disappear. Connections expire.

Have you ever had this happen? Someone matches with you. You’re busy with work, family, life. You check the app a day later… and the connection is gone. It feels like a missed opportunity. But the truth is, the system isn’t designed for thoughtful pacing. It’s designed for speed, urgency, and volume. More swipes. More engagement. More time on the platform. Less real connection.

Sometimes I think about dating apps the same way people talk about the search for the cure for cancer. There is an enormous amount of money in treatments that keep people coming back. But a cure would end the revenue stream. Now, I’m not suggesting some grand conspiracy, but the incentives are clear. If the business model depends on people continuing to search, the system will naturally be built to keep them searching.  Have you left an App and then returned in a few months when you are lonely?  It happens all the time. There is no incentive for dating Apps to make changes to help you find love.  NONE!

That’s where matchmaking is different.

One of the biggest differences between a dating app and working with a professional matchmaker is vetting. On most apps, there is no real verification beyond a profile and a few photos. You often have no idea if the person with whom you are messaging is who they say they are, or if you are even talking to a real person and not a BOT or someone misrepresenting themselves. In contrast, every single person in our Soulmate Quest Inner Circle has been personally met and vetted by our team. We take the time to understand who they are, their character, their intentions, and what they are truly looking for. Many of our Inner Circle members are also referred through our trusted network, which creates an additional layer of credibility and accountability that simply does not exist on dating apps.

At Soulmate Quest, our success only happens when you leave us. Our goal is to introduce you to someone extraordinary and watch you ride off into the sunset together.

We don’t rely on algorithms or swipe culture. We do something far more intentional. We will go looking.

When I have a client, I don’t wait for someone to appear in a database. I reach out into communities across the Bay Area. Professional circles. Social networks. Introductions through trusted relationships.

Much like an executive search firm looking for the right individual for an open role for a company.  A Recruiter must consider the experience, values, employment history, industry knowledge and a fit to the culture. When you work with Soulmate Quest, we search for the right partner for each person. We go into what we like to call “target rich environments.” Rooms where accomplished, interesting, emotionally available people already exist. People who might never join a dating app. People who are busy living their lives. People who are ready for something real.

Dating apps create activity. Matchmakers create introductions. And sometimes the right introduction can change everything.

If you’re tired of swiping and ready for something different, maybe it’s time to step outside the algorithm and back into the human world. You never know who might already be looking for you.
